Basic Controls Setup
Here you will find a basic set up tutorial for IL-2 cliffs of Dover/Desert Wings Tobruk. This tutorial will cover the basics, which will allow you to fly most single engine fighters in the game in the online environment.
This tutorial is made on the assumption you have a head tracking system. If not, you will also need to set up pan/snap views.

Before we get started, it's worth noting that there are sometimes problems in setting up certain combinations of flight sticks throttles and pedals. It may be the cxase that the game does not recognise and therefore assign controls. This is nothing to do with the game itself. It's just STEAM'S poor controller support.
If this issue plagues you, it's a pretty simple thing to resolve. Firstly, sign into STEAM as usual, then open your game installation folder. It's usual path is something like ...
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\IL-2 Stumovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz
In there, is an executable file called "Launcher64" which may have a roundel next to it. This is the exe file that launches the game. You will need to run the game from there, which bypasses Steam's game startup and therefore resolves the inability to assign controls.
It's worth right clicking this exe file and choose "Send To" and then "Desktop", which will create a desktop shortcut for you to use in future to launch the game.
*****************************************************************************************************
Right, now onto the controls. These will be listed in order of how they will appear, and be sectioned as to how they appear in the game user inerface.
Once the game has loaded, choose OPTIONS, then CONTROLS.
AXES
Click the AXES tab at the top, this will automatically change the category to AIRCRAFT. In there assign controls for your standard flight controls of AILERON, ELEVATOR and RUDDER.
Scroll Down to THROTTLE and PROPELLOR PITCH and also set those to AXES controls.
If you are lucky enough to have rudder pedals with toe brakes, you can also set WHEEL BRAKES OR LEFT WHEEL BRAKES and RIGHT WHEEL BRAKES, depending on which aircraft you are flying. The Spitfire and Hurricane uses WHEEL BRAKES. The 109 has differential braking and you can use LEFT and RIGHT WHEEL BRAKES.
NOTES:
As the game only allows you to set one button/axes only once, you will need to assign toe brakes depending on which aircraft you are flying at the time.
KEYS
Click The Keys tab at the top left of Screen. Keys are for setting up controls to either keyboard or joystick/throttle buttons.
